Welcome to Microbiology!
Hello MBIO 211 students! Welcome to the exciting world of microbiology.
The study of microorganisms is an interesting subject since it affects our daily lives in many ways. This subject includes classroom discussions and laboratory work as application of what you have learned in the classroom.
Please make sure to review the course syllabus. Please keep in mind the learning objectives for each session/module since this will serve as your guide when studying and reading your textbook.

About MBIO 211
Microbiology is a three hour lecture and three hour laboratory subject for second year BS Biology students.
It covers general knowledge of the taxonomy, morphology, biological characteristics and life cycle of microorganisms. This subject differentiates the microorganisms that inhabit our planet and examines the effects of these microbes on the biosphere. It also explores the effects of microorganisms in health and disease.
Class Learning Objectives
After successful completion of Microbiology , students will be able to:
- Demonstrate understanding of the fundamental principles governing the physiology the physiology of microorganisms.
- Explain the classification of microorganisms.
- Outline the structural and functional differences among microorganisms
- Explain the importance of microorganisms to man and environment.
- Describe microbial interactions with hosts in health and disease.
Expectations
Students are expected to have read and analyzed the course syllabus at the start of the semester. Likewise, are expected to come to class prepared for the day's topic and activities. Assignments should be accomplished on time. Rules and regulations in the laboratory should be followed at all times.
Grading Scheme
The final grade of each student is interpreted as follows:
FINAL GRADE = 20% prelims + 20% midterms + 20% finals + 35% AT + 5% CTP (lec)
= 50% quizzes + 50% performance (lab )
