PROGRAM EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES (PEO)
A graduate of BS Nursing is expected to:
1. Apply knowledge of physical, social, natural and health sciences, and humanities in the practice of nursing
2. Provide safe, appropriate and holistic care to individuals, families, population groups and community utilizing nursing process
3. Apply guidelines and principles of evidence-based practice in the delivery of care in any setting.
4. Practice nursing in accordance with existing laws, legal, ethical and moral principles
5. Communicate effectively in writing, speaking and presenting using culturally-appropriate language
6. Document and report on client care accurately and comprehensively
7. Work effectively in teams, in collaboration with other disciplines and multi-cultural teams
8. Practice beginning management and leadership skills in the delivery of client care
9. Conduct research with an experienced researcher

NCMA 110
Course Title : Theoretical Foundations of Nursing
Course Code : NCMA 110
Course Description : The course deals with the meta concepts of person, health, environment and nursing as viewed by the different theories. It also includes non - nursing theories such as systems, development and change theories. It presents how these concepts and theories serve as a guide to nursing practice. It further deals with health as multifactorial phenomenon and the necessary core competencies that the nurse needs to develop.
Course Credit : 3 units (54 hours)
Independent study : 15 hours
Pre - requisites : None
Program Outcomes :

Level Outcomes: At the end of the first year the student will develop appreciation of the importance of theoretical foundation in the practice of nursing.
Course Outcomes: Given different health scenarios. The student will be able to:
1. Apply knowledge of physical, social, natural, and health sciences and humanities in managing clients, teams, and programs in any health- care setting
2. Utilize the nursing process in managing a group of clients/nursing service unit/program in any health settings.
3. Apply guidelines and principles of evidence – based practice in nursing practice utilizing the nursing theories.
4. Practice nursing skills in accordance with existing laws, legal, ethical and moral principles
5. Communicate effectively in speaking, writing and presenting using culturally-appropriate language to clients and health-care team.
6. Report and document up – to – date client care accurately and comprehensively
7. Apply principles of partnership and collaboration to improve delivery of health services.
8. Understand the relevance of applying theories in managing a nursing service unit/health program in any health-care settings.
9. Appreciate the contribution of nursing theories in quality assurance activities in a nursing service unit.
10. Value the relationship of nursing theories in varied educational development activities.
11. Practice the core values of the Philippine nursing profession
12. Apply techno-intelligent care systems and processes in health care delivery using the technological advancement in nursing theory.
13. Adopt the nursing core values learned on the course in the practice of the profession.
